For Steve it had been five years. Five long, hard, sad years. He’d come here after their defeat with Thanos and he hadn’t known how to love on. But he had started to, he remembers that, he had started to because of her. Having Juliet made everything easier. Back home he didn’t have that, he didn’t have her or even a memory of her. He had his defeat, and a world that was falling apart and struggling to put itself back together.

He was at a counseling meeting telling people they needed to move on, go forward, because there wasn’t anything else to do, but he had stayed, stuck in the past.

And then he blinked and he was back in Wonderland and memories came rushing back. For the first time in five years he felt like he could breath again. Not something he ever thought he would attribute to a Wonderland, but Juliet was still here.

She was different, he could tell, just little things but he noticed them. But when she smiled at him it still felt like a weight was being lifted off his shoulders. He still loved her, he would always love her, but his absence had hurt her- even if that wasn’t his fault, wasn’t his choice to leave her here alone when they had just started to build a life together. So he was content to sit on the couch and laugh with her, follow her cues. Even if that was just friendship.

“I’m not sure how it’s possible to miss someone you don’t remember but, I missed you Juls.”

She's worried to admit how much. A lot of things changed back home, and while things continually grew more complicated--especially, sometimes, with Shawn--it didn't mean everything she felt in Wonderland had been erased. She still occasionally found herself waking up and searching for him when she was half asleep, only to be reminded her bed was empty.

"Do you think..." It comes out of her mouth before she can think it through, but she manages to pull it back. Juliet isn't under any impression that he feels the same as he did before. And the last thing she wants to do is pressure him. "It's been a long time. I don't know whether or not to feel like we need to get to know each other all over again."

Maybe they've changed too much. Although she wishes they haven't.
