[Kate tried not to sigh. Alexis already sounded totally freaked and the last thing Kate wanted to do was make the situation worse.]

You're dad... Got involved with my case down here. We could use his input.

[Not... entirely a lie. But Beckett had two priorities: calm Alexis down and get her off the phone as soon as possible.]

I'll have him call you when he gets here, okay?

Okay.

[ As much as she believes Kate, and wants to put her absolute trust in her, there's still something of a doubt in her voice. Alexis had thought they might have at least given a little explanation first, a 'Mr Castle, we could use your help on something' without terrifying everyone involved. Her dad didn't even look like he knew what was going on ]

Why couldn't he help from here or at least be told what was happening? He didn't even know what was going on.

It's really complicated, Alexis. And a lot of it is information I just can't give you.

I know it's hard but the best you can do is... Just trust me on this. [If anything happens to Castle, Kate knows she just made the situation worse but she's determined to make sure nothing happens to him.]

I do. [ There was that, at least, even if it was hard for Alexis to swallow. Seeing her dad like that, as if he was being arrested... it had happened before but she'd never been scared like she had this time - and he'd seemed scared too, and uncertain. That was the hardest part of it, more than being told that she couldn't know anything. She understood what classified was, and could respect that more than her dad could, and that was why she could trust Kate, and why that wasn't an issue.

But Kate hadn't been there - she hadn't seen how it had happened, how they'd come in, taken her dad with no explanation (not even to him). She hadn't seen the looks on their faces, or known how Alexis had felt in that moment. And even now, even with trust, it was hard to just swallow it, to accept it. She didn't know if she'd be able to speak to her dad until it was over, just so she knew that he was okay ]

Can he call me when he gets there? I won't ask him anything I just need to know that he got there - that he's okay. [ It would help her, and even her gran breathe easier ]

[Kate had sympathy for what Alexis was going through - more than sympathy. He was Alexis dad but he was her fiance, and Kate wasn't planning on losing him. Not after everything they fought for.

But she didn't have time to be scared, either. He needed help and Kate needed to find answers, and that's what she had to concentrate on. So she was handling this just like she handled every other case, distancing herself and trying not to get to emotionally involved. Which was harder than she thought it would be while she listened to how scared Alexis sounded on the phone, even if the brave girl was doing her best to hide it.

Kate knew what it was like to lose a parent at nineteen. There wasn't a chance she was letting that happen to Alexis, not without a fight.]

I'll make sure he calls you and lets you know he's okay.

[ There was a little sound of relief, not quite a sigh of relief but it was there, audible in how Alexis's tone had relaxed a little, a small amount of her panic slipping away. She wouldn't properly rest or relax until her dad had called, and not fully until he was back home with them. But it was enough to hear the promise, and know that it would happen

There was a small hang on the line. Alexis didn't want to just hang up, couldn't without sounding rude (she might have called just for this, but she wasn't that person), but she knew that with everything going on - her dad on the way, a case in progress, that Kate would be busy. But she at least wanted to show something, even if Kate knew that this was a call just for one purpose - to give Kate the opportunity to have to excuse Alexis ]

I, uh- I'd ask how everything with the job is going- [ Since it had been a couple of weeks since she'd seen Kate to ask herself ] -but you've probably got a lot to do before my dad gets there.

[Kate's stomach was twisted in knots, and she felt sick lying to her. She knew this was going to come back and bite her in the ass but she didn't care - giving Alexis a false sense of security so she could concentrating on fixing the situation with Castle was worth it.

And if it didn't get fixed well... That was an option Kate was even going to entertain. He was the love in her life, there was no way she was going to let him go. Not like this.]

Yeah, I really should go but... I'll make sure he calls. Just... don't worry, Alexis.
